Felony Charges Against Former NFL Player Dismissed

Garrett Wolfe was originally charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after an altercation at a nightclub in Miami, Florida. The dispute began when a bartender at the Miami nightclub claimed that Wolfe walked out on the tab. Wolfe allegedly went outside to speak to the police officer that responded to the call. While the next events are unclear, Wolfe allegedly assaulted the reporting officer. After being arrested, Wolfe was hit with two felony charges.

Court records reveal that Wolfe's charges have been downgrade to one misdemeanor offense. At first, he was accused of retail theft and physically resisting arrest. After the reporting officer was interviewed, it was found that Wolfe were merely argumentative, not physically combative as was first reported. Wolfe could have faced a prison sentence as lengthy as five years long, but now he only faces a resisting an officer without violence charge.

A long list of current and former NFL players have been arrested and cited for violence, giving the legal profession cause to wonder if they are more prone to violence. Because football players are encouraged to be physically aggressive on the field, sometimes they are unable to curb their impulses in their everyday lives. It is not known how Wolfe has pleaded to the charge. If he is convicted, he will have to pay a fine and perhaps perform community service. Since the retail theft charge was dropped, Wolfe and his lawyers may have agreed to pay the bar tab after the altercation at the nightclub.
